Project SEARCH is

  • a supported employment initiative for young people with  learning difficulties and disabilities.
  • essentially a joint project between a local authority, a local college or school and a host employer. In our case that would be East Sussex County Council, East Sussex College Group and the East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.
  • driven by partnerships and a network of tutors, job coaches, job developers and business leaders that play an integral role in executing our goal of obtaining paid employment for individual with disabilities. Through this approach, participants are supported to complete three internships (or placements) with their host employer on a full time basis over the year, experiencing over 800 hours of practical work based learning. Through this work experience, they are supported to achieve vocational qualifications. At the end of the year, they are supported to source and sustain paid employment.
