Expertise
I am a specialist in Communication Support, Person Centred Approaches and planning, Independent Living models and community connecting
Experience
My knowledge and skills have always been enhanced by my personal experiences. My second daughter was diagnosed with Rett syndrome at the age of four. Rett Syndrome is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects girls almost exclusively. It is characterised by normal early growth and development followed by a slowing of development, loss of purposeful use of the hands, distinctive hand movements, slowed brain and head growth, problems with walking, seizures, and intellectual disability. Driven by my determination to ensure the best possible outcomes for my daughter and family I developed the knowledge and skills I can now offer to others.
Background
My involvement in the work of providing good support and services to people with Learning Disabilities in East Sussex spans more than three decades. Firstly, as a Creative Practitioner offering community building and movement workshops; and subsequently, becoming involved as a carer and representative in issues around learning disabilities, through early years, education and for the past 6 years in Adult Social Care. Over the years, I have gained the knowledge and skills required to support others to learn, grow and flourish. I have worked with partners in special education, health and social care, universities and private and voluntary organisations to develop services and set priorities.
