Steven Young

As a PA I have worked on a one-to-one basis with several clients mostly suffering with different forms of dementia and having different levels of mobility. This has usually taken the form of outings and social engagements but I have, as advocate, led a team of PAs assisting in every aspect of life, liaising with family and authorities on behalf of the client. I also have experience working with a deaf client and as sighted support to a blind person.

On my CV, under interests, I included 'walking, conversation and country pubs, they go together'. I've always been keen on sport and keeping fit, as a player previously but not so much now: Football, rugby and anything with a ball and racquet were my favourites and I do some table tennis coaching from time to time. I enjoy backgammon, without being proficient, along with poetry, literature and reading aloud when there is an excuse and time. Whilst making no claims to language skills, I can manage a little French and Spanish... ish. I am pet friendly and have a very happy young dog with a lovely nature.

I was in the corporate world in my previous career, mostly in corporate communications. Although in that environment communications were on a larger scale than one-to-one, the principle of listening first and listening well is key.
I did also work as a driver/chauffeur for a few months... it was diverting and certainly different.

I have completed the Support With Confidence PA Induction Course and have current certificate in Moving & Handling (People), Food Hygiene and Emergency First Aid. I additionally have certificates of learning in Dementia, Safeguarding Adults at Risk and various aspects of Self Directed Support.

I am a member of the Support with Confidence Scheme
