Sussex Interpreting Services (SIS)

Our vision is of an inclusive and diverse society where people of all cultural and linguistic backgrounds are able to live in harmony, play a full and valued role and enjoy the same rights. SIS exists to enable full access, for people with language needs, to to improve health, education and overall quality of life.

SIS aims to provide Community Interpreting services to meet the appropriate communication needs of all clients.  We believe clients have the right to equality of access to public services and to informed consent.

Services we offer:

  • Interpreting - Our community interpreters work face to face to ensure access to services for people with language support needs. They help people feel safe, heard and understood.
  • eLangserv - eLangserv allows registered users to request interpreters directly onto our booking system, view booking history and to check the status of an existing booking.
  • Guest Booking - Interpreting bookings for organisations not using eLangserv.
  • Translation - Translation involves the accurate written transmission of meaning to support understanding.
  • Bilingual Advocacy - Bilingual advocates work with more vulnerable and isolated service users. They work with the service user to uphold their rights and support people to take control of their situation.
  • Drop-in - The Drop-in takes place between 11.00am – 1.00pm on 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month. No appointment necessary.
  • Social Prescribing - Volunteer linguists reach out to isolated people and excluded communities to explain what services are available and how to access them.
  • Emergency Interpreting - We operate an emergency interpreting service 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
