Care for the Carers

Description

Do you look after someone who couldn't manage without your help?

Care for the Carers is your local carers centre. We are a local, independent charity supporting unpaid carers in East Sussex. If you look after a relative, friend or neighbour who couldn’t manage without your help because of illness, disability, frailty or a long term illness, we are here to help.

What do we do?

We hold local, up to date information tailored to carers’ needs, and our team of staff and volunteers can provide practical & emotional advice. We can put you in touch with other carers, and offer a range of groups, training and events.

Our range of services includes:

  • Information, advice and emotional and practical support;
  • Counselling;
  • Opportunities to meet other carers and build support networks.
  • Support groups facilitated by a Care for Carers Support Worker. Carers can request speakers to talk on topics of interest, to build their knowledge, skills and support network;
  • A listening ear – you can speak to one our support workers on the phone or meet face to face
  • Help to plan for an emergency
  • Help to access other services
  • Support and practical help when the person you care for is in hospital
  • CareLine magazine – information, tips and carers’ shared experiences
  • Opportunities to influence key local strategic decisions impacting on carers

Opening Times: Monday to Friday 9.00am – 5.00pm

We also work with social services and the health, representing the interests of local carers in statutory planning of services, supporting you to have your say on services, and providing training and guidance on what carers need.

We are a Network Partner of the national charity Carers Trust and a member of Carers UK, which enables us to make sure that East Sussex carers are represented at a national level too.
